WYH Travel Hockey Coaching Requirements

You must Register as a Coach with USA Hockey:

Massachusetts law requires this EVERY year. At the beginning of the season, they are experience a large backlog, so get this done as soon as possible as it may take up to two weeks to process this.

This needs to be completed EVERY season. Once you have registered with USA Hockey complete SafeSport. Upon completion – email a copy of your completed certificate to Lisa Wise at wyhbilling@gmail.com. 

If you will be coaching a travel team in any capacity, you must attend a Coaching Education program (CEP) EVERY YEAR BY JANUARY 1ST.

"All coaches must enter USA Hockey's Coaching Education Program at Level 1, and must continue their education with a coaching clinic each year until, at a minimum, they achieve Level 4.

Coaches of only 8 and Under players should remain at Level 1 until such time as they are coaching any older age level of play. 

A coach may attend only one (1) certification clinic per year. 

Once Level 4 is achieved, coaches will need to complete 5 credit hours of continuing education within each subsequent three-year period"

Please note: You do NOT have to take a clinic in Massachusetts. This means that if there are virtual or in-person options available in other states, you may register for them. 

All coaches must complete their online age-specific module(s) for the age level of play they will be coaching. This must be completed PRIOR to participating in any team activities. A coach cannot be added to a roster unless this is completed.

Mandatory Requirements:

1. Register with USA Hockey
2. Complete Background Screening
3. Complete SafeSport Training
4. Complete Your Annual USA Hockey CEP Clinic
5. Complete Your Age-Specific Online Module

Waltham Youth Hockey will reimburse any coach in our program for the costs of their coaching education requirements

Any coach who does not complete these requirements in a timely manner will be red-lined by USA Hockey and cannot participate in team activities.
